Primary Skin Lesions

TermDefinition
Macule a small, flat spot that goes up to 1 cm in diameter
Wheal an irregular, relatively transient area of skin edema
Vesicle a blister filled with serous fluid that goes up to 1 cm in diameter
Papule a raised area that is less than 1 cm in diameter
Nodule a marble-like lesion under the skin that is greater than 0.5 cm
Pustule filled with pus
Bulla a fluid-filled lesion that is greater than 1 cm in diameter
