Tectonic Plates

These are my flash cards for science class

TermDefinition
Convergent The boundary between tectonic plates that are colliding.
Divergent The boundary between two tectonic plates that are moving away from each other.
Transform The boundary between tectonic plates that are sliding past each other horizontally.
Plate Boundary Plate Boundaries are the same thing as Plate Tectonics.
Mid-Atlantic ridge a long, undersea mountain, chain that has a steep, narrow valley at it's center, that forms as magma rises from the asthenosphere, and that creates new oceanic lithosphere (sea floor) as tectonic plates move apart.
Cascade Mountains The Cascade mountains is a major range of Western North America, extending from South British Columbia through Washington and Oregon to Northern California.
Andes Mountains The Andes is the longest mountain range in the world. It is a continual range of highlands along the Western coast of South America.
Himalayan Mountains The Himalayan Mountains is a mountain range in Asia separating the Plains of the Indian Subcontinent from the Tibetan Plateau. The Himalayan range is home to some of the Planet's highest peaks,including the highest, Mount Everest.
