TermDefinition
Barometer Tool used to measure air pressure.
Hygrometer Tool used to measure humidity.
Sling Psychrometer Tool used to measure humidity.
Anemometer Tool used to measure wind speed.
High Air Pressure Air molecules which are cold, dense, heavy and sink. Shown on a weather map with an "H".
Low Air Pressure Air molecules which are warm, less dense, light and rise. Shown on a weather map with an "L".
Land Breeze Air moving from land to the ocean at night because the air over the land is cool and dense with a higher pressure than that over the ocean.
Sea Breeze Air moving from the ocean toward the land during the day. The air over the ocean is cooler and more dense having a higher pressure than the hot air over the land.
Gulf Stream Ocean current flowing from the Gulf of Mexico, along the eastern coast of the US across the Atlantic toward the UK.
Density the amount of matter in a given volume of a substance. D=m/v
Air Mass Large mass of air taking on the characteristics of the area from which it forms.
Front Boundary where two air masses meet.
Cold Front When a cold air mass overtakes a warm air mass.
wARM FRONT WHEN A WARM AIR MASS OVERTAKES A COLD AIR MASS.
