weather terms
| Term | Definition |

| tornado | This is an intense windstorm that often forms within a severe thunderstorm |
| thermosphere | the upper layer of the Earth's atmosphere where temperatures are extremely high. |
| surface map | This includes station models and information about fronts and about centers of high pressure and low pressure |
| weather map | This shows data about recent weather conditions across a large area. |
| troposphere | This is the layer of the Earth's atmosphere where all life exists. |
| thunderstorm | This is a very strong storm with a lot of rain, thunder, and lightning. |
| mesosphere | the layer of atmosphere where air is thin and most meteors burn up |
| stratosphere | the layer of the Earth's atmosphere where ozone exists |
| air mass | A large body of air that has same characteristics throughout |
| air pressure | This is the amount of air pressing down on a specific area. |
| relative humidity | This number is a comparison of the actual amount that could be in the air ant the same temperature and pressure |
| front | This is the border between two air masses that collide. |
| forecast | This is a prediction of what the weather will be like in the future. |
| station model | An arrangement of symbols and numbers that show the weather conditions recorded ata a weather station |
| weather balloon | This tool carries a package of instruments that records data about temperature, air pressure, and humidity |
| hurricane | This is a large, spiraling storm system that can be as much as 600Km (372 miles) across. These get their energy from water. |
| tropical storm | This weather condition occurs when winds reach a constant speed of 63 km/hr or 39 mph |
