Circulation & Immune

Circulation & Immunity

QuestionAnswer
Intracellular: The movement of material inside the cell. Ex: Endoplasmic Reticulum, or Passive and Active transport.
Extracellular: The movement of materials outside of the body cells, but still inside our bodies. This mostly happens by the movement of the blood.
No Circulatory System: Single or few celled organisms rely directly on diffusion and active transport with their environment
Open Circulatory System: These organisms have blood, blood vessels and a way to move the blood, BUT the blood washes over the organs and exchanges materials directly.
Closed Circulatory System: All blood is contained in blood vessels. Exchange of materials must pass through the thin walled blood vessels called Capillaries
Artery: Carry blood AWAY the heart.
Vein: Carry blood BACK to the heart.
Capillary: Are tiny, one cell layer thick blood vessels. They are the ONLY place where materials diffuse between the body and blood!
Red Blood Cells: Carry oxygen and carbon dioxide.
White Blood Cells: They fight disease.
Plasma: When in the blood this liquid is called PLASMA! It's a watery material that makes blood a liquid.
Platelets: Are tiny particles that cause blood clots. When there is a break or tear in blood vessel, they "clog up" the tear until the body can make new cells to repair the blood vessel.
ICF(Intra Cellular Fluid): The fluid is "squeezed" out of the blood vessels and into body cavities. The ICF keeps the body moist and washes away any pathogens (or "funk").
Lymph: The lymph goes through lymph nodes that filter it out and then the clean lymphis returned to the blood and called Plasma again!

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

To see how well you know the information, try the Quiz or Test activity.
