|---|---|
| Cuticle Stoma | A waxy or a fatty and watertight layer on the external wall of epidermal cells. One of maney opening in a leaf or a stem of a plant enable gas exchange to occur. |
| Guard Cell Vascular System | One of a pair of specialized cells that border a stoma and regulate gas exchange. A conducting system of tissues that transport water and other materials from one part of a plant. |
| Nonvascular Plant Vascular Plant | The 3 groups of plants that lack specialized conducting, tissues and true roots, stems, and leaves. A plant that has a vascular system composed of xylem and phloem, specialized tissues conduct. |
| Seed Embryo | A plant embryo that is enclosed in a protective coat. An organism in an early stage of development of plants and animals. |
| Seed Plant Flower | A plant that produces seeds. The productive structure of flowering plant that usually consists of a pistol, stamens, petal, and sepal. |
| Phloem Xylem | The tissue that conducts food (sugar, amino acids, and mineral nutrients) in vascular plants. Hard-walled cells that transport water and mineral nutrients in a kind of tissue. |
| Shoot Root | The portion of a plant that grows mostly above the ground; includes the stems and leaves. The mainly underground organ of vascular plants that hold plants in a place and absorns and stores water and minerals. |
| Meristem Rhizoid | A region of undifferentiated plant cells that are capable of dividing and developing into specialized plant tissues. A root like structure in nonvascular plants, such as mosses or live worts, that holds plants in place and aids in absorption. |
| Rhizome Frond | A horizontal, underground stem that provides a mechanism for asexual reproduction. The leaf of a fern or palm. |
| Cone Gymnosperm | In animals, a photoreceptor within the retina that can distinguish colors and is very sensitive to bright lights. A woody vascular seaplant whose seeds are not enclosed by an avary or fruit. |
| Angiosperm Fruit | A flowering plant that produces seeds within a plant. A mature plant ovary; the plant organ in which the seeds are enclosed |
| Endosperm Monocot | A triploid (3n) tissue that developes in the seeds of angiosperms and that provides food for a developing embryo. A monocotyledonous plant; a plant that produces seeds that have only one cotyledon. |
| Dicot Vegetative Part | A dicotyledonous plants; an angiosperm that has two cotyledons, net venation, and flowers parts in groups or four. Any nonreproductive part of a plant. |
| Cereal Grain | Any grass that produces grains that can be used for food, such as rice, wheat, corn, oats, or barley. The edible seeds or seedlike fruit of a cereal grass. |
