Why do leaves appear green? Leaves appear green because leaves reflect green light and absorb all the other colors of light.
When you are in the sun, why do you feel cooler in white than you do in black clothing? The white clothing reflects the light from the sun, but the black clothing absorbs the light.
Why do you see a rainbow in the spray of a fountain or lawn sprinkler? The drops of water act like tiny prisms and refract (bend) the light waves. This separates the white light into the colors of the rainbow.
If you shined a flashlight through blue tissue paper so that the beam from the flashlight hits a white wall, what color would you see? It will be blue. The tissue paper absorbs all of the colors of light except blue. Blue light passes through the paper and is reflected off the wall.
