Why do you see a rainbow in the spray of a fountain or lawn sprinkler? The drops of water act like tiny prisms and refract (bend) the light waves. This separates the white light into the colors of the rainbow.
If you shined a flashlight through blue tissue paper so that the beam from the flashlight hits a white wall, what color would you see? It will be blue. The tissue paper absorbs all of the colors of light except blue. Blue light passes through the paper and is reflected off the wall.
