Bones, circulatory, respiratory, digestive, excretory, and nervous systems

TermDefinition
Femur Commonly known as the "Thigh bone," also the longest bone in the human body
Clavicle Commonly known as the "Collar Bone"
Tibia This bone supports the lower leg, the thicker of the two lower leg bones.
Fibula This bone helps the lower leg turn, the smaller of the two bones.
Skull This bone structure protects the brain.
Spinal Column This series of bones protects the spinal cord.
Humerus The bone of the upper arm.
Pelvis The hips.
Patella Commonly known as the "Knee Cap."
Sternum This bone brings the ribs together, also commonly known as the "Breast Bone."
Ulna This arm bone helps support the forearm.
Radius This arm bone helps the forearm to turn.
Ribs They protect the organs of the chest.
Aorta The major artery of the body.
Vena Cava The major vein of the human body.
The atria The top two chambers of the heart.
The ventricles The bottom two chambers of the heart.
Left atrium Oxygen rich blood comes back from the lungs into this chamber
Right atrium Carbon Dioxide rich blood comes back into the heart via this chamber.
Left ventricle This chamber pumps blood to the body.
Right ventricle This chamber pumps blood to the lungs.
Artery This blood vessel carries blood away from the heart.
Vein This blood vessel carries blood to the heart.
Capillary The tiniest blood vessel, carries blood from arteries to veins.
Heart A major organ that pumps blood to the body
Oxygen A gas that is needed by all cells for cellular respiration
Cellular respiration What animal cells do to make energy.
Carbon Dioxide A gas that is the waste product of cellular respiration.
Red blood cell Cells that bring oxygen to cells and carbon dioxide back to the lungs.
Pharynx Commonly known as the "throat," connects the nasal passage and the mouth.
Larynx The voice box.
Trachea Commonly known as the "Windpipe."
Bronchi The two major tubes that are connected to the trachea and enter the lungs.
Bronchioles Smaller branch like tubes in the lungs.
Alveoli Tiny air-sacs that exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide.
Lungs Major organ devoted to gas exchange.
Cilia Hairs that cover the nasal passages.
Stomach An organ that breaks up major food particles.
Small intestine Tubes that finalize the digestion process.
Vili "Bumps" on the small intestine wall that help absorb nutrients.
Esophagus Tube that allows food to pass to the stomach.
Bile A digestive juice secreted by the liver to digest fats.
Epiglottis A flap of skin that covers the trachea when swallowing.
Diaphragm A muscle that helps with breathing by pushing upwards and lowering.
Kidney Organs used to filter out urine from the bloodstream.
Ureter A tube that connects the kidney to the bladder.
Bladder The organ used to store urine.
Urethra A tube used to expel urine from the body.
Skin An organ that controls body temperature by sweating.
Epidermis The outer layer of skin.
Dermis The inner layer of skin.
Liver Makes bile for fat digestion and filters out toxins.
Urine Liquid waste.
Excretion The process for removing the body's wastes.
Cerebrum The larger part of the brain where all human thought is concerned.
Cerebellum The small "lizard-zombie" part of the brain.
Spinal cord The major highway of nerves that connects the brain to the rest of the body.
The four lobes of the brain Frontal, Parietal, Temporal and Occipital.
Frontal Lobe The part of the cerebrum that controls higher ordered thinking and reasoning ability.
Temporal lobe The part of the cerebrum that controls time passage and sound interpretation.
Parietal lobe The part of the cerebrum that controls pain reception and pressure.
Occipital lobe The part of the cerebrum that controls eyesight.
