weather

QuestionAnswer
weather the state of the atmosphere with respect to wind, temperature, cloudiness, moisture, pressure, etc.
atmosphere the gaseous envelope surrounding the earth; the air.
ozone In the upper atmosphere, it absorbs ultraviolet rays, thereby preventing them from reaching the surface of the earth.
water vapor Water vapor or is the gas phase of water
photo chemical smog Fog that has become polluted with smoke and particulates, especially from burning coal
Acid Rain rain or other precipitation with a high concentration of acids
Pressure a pressing or being pressed; compression; squeezing
Air Pressure the pressure of atmospheric or compressed air
Barometer an instrument for measuring atmospheric pressure
Mercury Barometer barometer that shows pressure by the height of a column of mercury
Aneroid Barometer a barometer with a needle connected by mechanical linkages and springs to a thin, hollow metal disk in which a partial vacuum is maintained: a change in atmospheric pressure changes the shape of the disk, thus moving the needle
Altitude height, elevation, loftiness, eminence
Jet Stream any of several bands of high-velocity winds moving from west to east around the earth
Troposphere The lowest and densest region of the Earth's atmosphere
Stratosphere the atmospheric zone or shell located above the tropopause
Mesosphere The region of the earth's atmosphere above the stratosphere and below the thermosphere.
Thermosphere The region of the atmosphere above the mesosphere
Lonosphere The layer of the earth's atmosphere that contains a high concentration of ions and free electrons
Exosphere The outermost region of a planet's atmosphere.
Electromagnet Wave electromagnetic radiation: radiation consisting of waves of energy associated with electric and magnetic fields
Radiation The emission of energy as electromagnetic waves or as moving subatomic particles
Infrared radiation electromagnetic radiation with wavelengths between those of visible red light and radio waves
ultraviolet radiation radiation lying in the ultraviolet range; wave lengths shorter than light but longer than X rays
Scattering A small, dispersed amount of something
Thermal energy the form of energy that is created by heat
Conduction The process by which heat or electricity is directly transmitted through a substance
Convection The movement caused within a fluid by the tendency of hotter and therefore less dense material to rise
Wind The perceptible natural movement of the airin the form of a current of air blowing from a particular direction
Anemometer An instrument for measuring the speed of the wind, or of any current of gas
Wind-chill factor the felt air temperature on exposed skin due to wind
local wind Winds that are generated over a comparatively small area by local terrain and weather
Sea breeze A breeze blowing toward the land from the sea
Land Breeze A breeze blowing toward the sea from the land
Global wind the large-scale movement of air
Latitude Regions, esp. with reference to their temperature and distance from the equator.
