| Coal | A fossil fuel formed from plants that lived in swamps million of years ago |
| Conservation | The wise use and protection of natural resources |
| Fossil Fuels | A fuel formed from the remains of once-living organisms (coal, petroleum, & natural gas) |
| Inexhaustible Resource | A resource incapable of being used up; ex: sun light and wind |
| Mineral | A nonrenewable resource; ex: gold, diamonds, silver |
| Natural Gas | A nonrenewable resource formed from once-living organisms used as fuel and found underground |
| Natural Resources | Resources obtained from the Earth; ex: trees, animals, soil |
| Nonrenewable Resources | Resources that nature cannot replace quickly enough to meet people's needs; ex: fossil fuels and minerals |
| Oil Petroleum | A nonrenewable resource formed from once living organisms |
| Recycle | Processing waste items so the materials they are made of can be used to make new items; ex: paper, aluminum, and glass |
| Reduce | To cut down on the use of resources |
| Renewable Resources | Resources that nature produces again and again; ex: animals, soil, water, oxygen, and plants |
| Reuse | To use items again; sometimes for a different purpose |
| Pollution | Anything in an environment that can harm living things or damage natural resources |
