Day/Night The time required for Earth to rotate once on its axis
Rotation The spin of a body on its axis
Revolution The motion of a body that travels around another body in space
Orbit The path that a body follows as it travels around another body in space
Year The time required for the Earth to orbit once around the sun
Leap year The year that the 1/4s of a day add up and make an extra day; only happens once every four years
Seasons A division of the year that is characterized by recurring weather conditions, and determined by both Earth"s tilt relative to the sun and Earth's position in its orbit around the sun
Solstice The point at which the sun is as far north or as far south of the equator as possible
Equinox The moment when the sun appears to cross the celestial equator
Satellite A natural or artificial body that revolves around another body in space
Gravity A force of attraction between two objects that is due to their masses
Solar Eclipse An event that occurs when the moon's shadow is cast on a certain part of the Earth; only happens on a new moon
Lunar Eclipse An event that occurs when the Earth's shadow is cast upon the moon Causing full darkness on the moon; only happens on a full moon
Tides The periodic rise and fall of the water level in the oceans and other large bodies of water
Spring Tide A tide of increased range that occurs two times a month, at the new and full moons
Neap Tide A tide of minimum range that occurs during the first and third quarters of the moon
Tidal Range The difference on levels of ocean water at high tide and low tide
