TermDefinition
Genetics the study of heredity
Homozygous (purebred) having two like genes for a particular trait – BB or bb
Heterozygous (hybrid) having two unlike genes for a particular trait - Bb
Phenotype the appearance of an organism
Genotype the genetic makeup or set of traits from an organism
Hybrid the offspring of 2 animals of different breeds.
Recessive a gene which is hidden when a dominant gene is present
Trait a characteristic
Gene basic unit of heredity (DNA/RNA)
Heredity the transmission of genetic characteristics from parent to offspring
Allele one of the forms of a gene that controls a particular trait. Most traits are determined by 2 alleles; one from each parent.
Dominant predominant or main...a gene which always shows itself
Punnett Square a chart that predicts the chances of offspring inheriting a particular trait from their parents.
