Rock Cycle The continual process by which new rock is formed from old rock.
Composition The chemical make up of rock - describes the minerals or elements in it.
Metamorphic rock The type of rock that is formed when existing rock is squeezed or heated.
Sedimentary Rock The type of rock that forms when particles of rock or sediment collect and cement into new rock.
Igneous Rock The type of rock that forms when hot, liquid rock or magma cools and hardens.
Mineral Any naturally forming soxturelid matter with a crystal structure.
Rock A solid mixture of crystals of one or more minerals.
Texture The sizes, shapes, and postitions of the minerals in the rock.
Weathering The process by which water, ice, heat, and wind act to break down rocks.
Erosion The process by which particles of rock are from removed from their source; the removal and transport of a rock and soil by the flow of water or the actions of gravity, wind, and ice.
Deposition The process in which water, ice, wind, and gravity deliver new sediment.
Compaction Sediments pressed together by gravity and their own weight.
Soil The top layer of the Earth's surface consisting of rock and mineral particles mixed with other organic matter.
Crust The upper part of the lithosphere, divided into oceanic and continental crust
Mantle The layer of hot rock between Earth's crust and the core
Lithosphere The solid, outer layer of the EArth that consists of the crust and the rigid upper part of the mantle.
Geopshere The solid part of the earth including the landforms, rocks, minerals, and soil - as well as the interior of the Earth.
Hydrosphere all water on Earth
Biosphere The part of the world that life can exist.
