| air pressure | the weight of air as it presses down |
| atmosphere | a layer of gases surrounding Earth |
| greenhouse effect | the process by which heat from the Sun builds up near Earth's surface and is trapped there by the atmosphere |
| weather | the conditions of the atmosphere at a certain place and time |
| water cycle | the movement of water into the air as water vapor and back to Earth's surface as rain,snow,sleet, or hail |
| condensation | the change of state from a gas to a liquid |
| evaporation | the change of state from liquid to a gas |
| precipitation | any form of water that falls from clouds to Earth's surface |
| air mass | a large body of air that has about the same temperature, air pressure, and moisture throughout |
| front | the place where two air masses meet |
| climate | the average weather conditions of an area over a long period of time |
| polar climate | a climate that has very cold temperatures al through the year |
| temperate climate | a climate that usually has warm, dry summers and cold, wet winters |
| tropical climate | a hot rainy climate |
| cold front | cold air forcing warm air upwards, creating storms |
| warm front | warm air moving over cold air which can create rain showers |
