EMS Chapter 40 Terms

TermDefinition
Hazardous Material Any Material that poses a threat or unreasonable risk to life, health, or property if not properly contained, processed, packaged, handled, stored, transported, used, or disposed.
Safety Zones The area in which rescue operations and decontamination procedures take place.
Hot Zone(Exclusion Zone) Where the contamination is present.
Warm Zone Also known as the Contamination Reduction Zone, or Control Zone. It is immediately adjacent to the Hot Zone
Cold Zone Also Known as the Support Zone, this area is immediately adjacent to the warm zone. Before entering this zone, rescuers must remove any contaminated clothing and gear.
