Atmosphere Earth system comprising the gaseous envelope surrounding the Earth
Hydrosphere consists of the oceans, lake, rivers, streams, and ice
Biosphere comprised of all the living creature on the Earth
Open System (Most natural systems) a system that exchanges matter and energy with the surrounding environment
Isolated System a system that does not exchange matter
Closed System a system that exchanges energy with its surroundings
Convection cells transfer of heat and molten rock from deep within Earth towards its surface during the process of sea floor spreading
James Hutton interpreted the action of processes much slower then observed by others
Nicholas Stillono came up with the principle of Superposition that states that younger rocks are layed on top of older rocks
Faunal Succession states the different groups of fossils follow each other in characteristic sequence
Phanerozoic - 550million years to present -Cambrian era -Paleozoic era -Modern era
Principle of Uniformitarianism states that the processes we observed today have always operated
Catastropism the view that Earth's observe processes not happening today
Deterministic the assumption that each effect has a particular cause
Ockham's Razor notion that the simplest explanation of a phenomenon is the one that is most likely to be correct
Multiple Causation when the same effect may have overlapping causes
Contingency the process that occurred during the ancient past have varied with historical circumstances
