These are questions off the study guide from Mr. Reininga for activities 71-74.

QuestionAnswer
phenomenon an event, or something that happens in the natural world or universe (ex. earthquakes, volcanic eruptions)
plausible consistent with evidence, makes sense in terms of observations (synonyms-credible, believable)
axis the imaginary line that runs through the center of Earth from the North Pole to the South Pole
rotate (verb) to turn or spin on an axis
rotation (noun) the act of spinning on an axis
When are shadows longest? When are they shortest? longest-early morning and late afternoon; shortest-noon
What direction do shadows point in the morning? Evening? Noon? morning-west; evening-east; noon-north
What is the correct model for why we have day and night on Earth? the 3rd model, "Earth takes one day to spin completely around on its axis."
Why do we have a need for time zones? if each city set its time to the exact time the sun was overhead (noon), since the Earth rotates, going to a different city would be very hard, that is why we need time zones
Who instituted time zones in the United States? all the railroads in 1883, (they divided the US into 4 time zone)
If you travel west (like to California), would you have to set your watch back (earlier) or forward (later)? What about if you travel east? west-you would have to set your watch earlier (back); east-you would have to set your watch later (forward)
