What is the carrying capacity? Maximum population size that can be sustained within an area.
What is intrasepcific competition? Competition between members of the same species.
What is interspecific competition? Competition between members of a different species.
What is a niche? The role of an organism in an ecosystem and it's effects it has on the ecosystem.
State a economic reason for conservatism. We can continue to get resources e.g. wood.
State a social reason for conservatism. People enjoy nature and conservatism ensures resources which also effect society.
State a ethical reason for conservatism. It is our responsibility to look after the planet.
What is one way to manage a forest? Coppicing.
What is a endemic species? A species found naturally in only one country or area.
State threats to species on the Galapago islands. Human population increase, over fishing and tourism.
What is a nastic movement? Relatively rapid response of a plant to a stimulus.
What is tropism? A response to a stimulus, brought about by growth e.g. shoot growing towards light.
How are hormones created in plants? By groups of cells, not glands.
What is phototropism? When a plant grows towards or away from the light.
What prevents a shoot from bending towards light? Covering the coleoptile or using a material which is not permeable to water.
What section a shoot makes it bend towards light? The coleoptile.
What is made by cells in the tip of shoots/ Auxin.
What gene increases bean size/ Gibberellin.
What's it called when plants leaves drop? Leaf abscission.
Name 3 plants hormones which effect plants. Auxin, ethene, ABA.
