Author's Purpose Every time an author writes, he or she has a purpose in mind.
Bias Having a preference for or against something. It is when you show favor to one side over another. It is generally seen as a "one-sided" point of view.
Biography THIS is a story of a person's life according to another person who writes it.
Caption THIS explains or describes an image, photo, or illustration. It is usually placed right under or next to the image.
Cause and Effect It is what makes something else happen. When it happens this is the result.
Classification THIS is the activity of grouping things according to traits that are similar in some way.
Comparison THIS identifies similarities and differences between two or more things.
Conclusion THIS is a decision based on careful consideration of facts and observations.
Contrast THIS is comparing two or more things in order to point out the differences between them.
Details THESE help the reader better understand the topic sentence or main idea.
Newspaper THIS is a daily or weekly publication of current news and topics of interest on folded sheets of paper.
