QuestionAnswer
Rotation The action of spinning around an axis.
Revolution An object moving around another object in a circular motion.
Seasons Each of the four divisions of the year(summer, winter, spring, and fall) that have changes in weather patterns.
Axial Tilt The angle between its equatorial plane and orbital plane.
Lunar Eclipse The moon passes into the earth's shadow and it darkens.
Solar Eclipse When the sun is obscured by the moon.
Neap Tide A less than average tide occurring at the first and third quarters of the moon.
Spring Tide A tide just after a new or full moon.
New Moon When the side of the moon facing the earth is covered with complete sunlight.
Full Moon The phase of the moon in which the whole side is illuminated.
First Quarter The fist fourth of the Moon's period of revolution around the Earth.
Third Quarter The moon is opposite the Sun, sitting at 180 degrees.
Waxing When the sunlight increases in size on the moon. (White on right, we're _____ tonight)
Waxing Crescent When there is just a sliver of light shining on the right side of the moon.
Waxing Gibbous When the Sun is covered by sunlight more than half way but less than full coming from the right hand side.
Waning Crescent When there is just a sliver of light shining on the left side of the moon.
Waning Gibbous When the Sun is covered by sunlight more than half way but less than full and is coming from the left side.
wave A long body of water curling into an arched form and breaking on the shore.
Tide The rising and falling of the sea.
Umbra The fully shaded inner region of a shadow cast by an opaque object.
penumbra The partially shaded outer region of the shadow cast by an opaque object.
Total eclipse In which the whole side of the sun or moon is obscured.
Partial Eclipse In which the eclipsed body is only partially obscured.
Polaris A fairly bright star located within one degree of the north celestial pole.
