QuestionAnswer
Asking a question to be tested based on initial observations Define the Problem
an educated guess; can be stated in "if/then" terms hypothesis
a series of setups in which observations can be made to prove or falsify a hypothesis experiment
type of experiment in which there are a group of controls and experimental groups controlled experiment
the measured or observed variable; what you "depend" on to happen; graphed using the y axis dependent variable
the variable that is manipulated and will influence the measured variable; graphed using the x axis independent variable
only 1 variable should be changed in a controlled experiment. This is the name given to all of the other variables that should remain the same between the control and experimental groups constants
statement made based on facts perceived by the senses observation
an assumption made from observations inference
a bubble that forms in a column of water. It should be read from the bottom. meniscus
unit measure of volume liter
unit measure of length meter
unit measure of mass gram
a statement about a phenomenon that is supported by many observations and experimental evidence; does not imply doubt; is subject to change and improvement theory
a statement about a part of a phenomenon that is always true scientific law
evidence and observations collected during an experiment data
increases by having more experimental setups, trials, and repeated experiments; also averaging data increases this accuracy
increases by proper analysis of data and providing enough evidence that others can run the experiment validity

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
