Salinity and Currents

QuestionAnswer
What is a longshore current? A current that runs parrel to the beach and caues much erosion.
What is a rip current? A current that runs opposite to the other currents and causes sandbars.
Name the parts of the wave White Cap, Breaker, Trough, crest.
What occurs when a breaker is blown off? A white cap is formed.
What causes the variations in salt water? evaporation, precipitation, river runoff, Thawing and freezing icebergs, and sea ice.
What is a gyre? A swirling vortex caused by the coriolis effect that transports sea organisms from nutrient depleated places to nutrient rich places
What is the ekman spiral? A current similar to a whirlpool.
