| carnivore | a terrestrial or aquatic flesh-eating mammal |
| habitat | the type of environments in which an organism or group normally lives or occurs. Example is "a marine habitat" |
| herbivore | any animal that feeds chiefly on grass and other plants. Example is "horses are herbivores" |
| niche | the status of an organism within its environment and community affecting its survival as a species. Each species of animals has a separate niche |
| nocturnal | having a habit of seeking food or moving about at night. Example nocturnal birds (bats) and insects |
| predator | any animal that lives by preying on other animals |
| prey | an animal that is hunted or caught for food |
