KDA- Measuring Vital Signs

Key TermDefinition
Abdominal Respiration Breathing in which the patient is using mostly the abdominal muscles.
Aneroid Sphygmomanometer Dial- type blood pressure equipment.
Apical Pulse A measurement of the heartbeats at the apex of the heart, located just under the left breast.
Apnea Periods of not breathing.
Axillary The area under the arms; the armpits.
Blood Pressure The force of the blood exerted on the inner walls of the arteries, veins, and chambers of the heart as blood flows or ciculates through the structures.
Centigrade A system for measurement of temperature using a scale divided into 100 units or degrees; in this system, the freezing temperature of water os 0°C and water boils at 100°C; often referred as Celsius.
