What is puberty? The age at witch a young person reaches sexual maturity

When a boy goes through puberty what are some changes he experiences? Rapid growth spurt, the enlargement of the penis and testis, the deepening of the voice, the growth of hair on the body
What is sperm? The male sex cell(also called gametes)
What is the scrotum? A sac that in witch the testes are held. The scrotum always the testes to be kept at a temperature just lower than the body temperature
What does the sperm duct do? Carry sperm from the testes to the penis
What is the penis? Allows semen to pass out of the male body and into the body of the female
What are the main parts in the female reproductive system? The ovary,the Fallopian tube,the uterus, the cervix and the vagina
What is the function of the ovaries? To produce eggs
When a girl goes through puberty what change take place in her body? The growth of the pelvis,breasts,vagina and uterus,the growth of hair on parts of the body
What is the function of the Fallopian tube? To collect the egg from the ovary and carry it to the uterus
What is the function of the uterus? Also known as the womb is the place witch a baby or embryo will develop
What is the cervix? The opening or neck of the uterus
What is the vagina? A muscular tube into witch the penis releases sperm. It forms the birth canal when the baby passes down the vagina at child birth
What is the menstrual cycle? A series of changes that take place in the female body every 28 days
During the menstrual cycle,what happens on days 1 to 5? The lining of the uterus breaks down. The lining is passed out of the vagina along with some blood,this is called having a period
During the menstrual cycle,what happens on days 6-13? A new lining develops in the uterus
During the menstrual cycle,what happens on day 14? Ovulation(When the egg is released from the ovary)
During the menstrual cycle,what happens on days 15 to 28 The lining of the uterus remains in place. It will break down on the first day of the next menstrual cycle
What is the fertile period? The time during the menstrual cycle when a female is most likely to become pregnant if she has intercourse
When does the fertile period occur? Day 11 of the menstrual cycle to day 16
What is fertilization? The joining of the male and female gamete to form a zygote
What is implantation? The attachment of the embryo to the lining of the uterus
Whilst in the uterus the embryo becomes surrounded by a membrane, what is this membrane called? Amnion
What does amniotic fluid do? It acts as a shock absorber to protect the embryo or baby
After eight weeks of pregnancy what does the embryo become? A fetus
How long does pregnancy usually last for? About 40 weeks, 9 months
What is pregnancy? Carrying the embryo(or offspring) in the uterus
What is the function of the placenta? The pass materials between the mother and baby in the uterus
What is labour? Prior to birth when muscles in the uterus contract
Name three things that happen at birth Contractions, the amnion bursts, umbilical cord is clamped down an cut,the baby comes out head frist through the cervix and vagina
Whast is contraception? The prevention of fertilization or pregnancy
