Questions(Respiratory System)Answer
What organs make up the Respiratory System? The nose and mouth,pharynx(throat),trachea(windpipe),larynx(voice box), lungs and bronchi.
What is the important role of the epiglottis? It covers the opening to the trachea when food is swallowed, preventing the food from going into the lungs. This is known as aspiration of food if it occurs.
How are the Circulatory and Respiratory Systems tightly linked? The Respiratory System delivers oxygen from the air to the blood to be transported through the Circulatory System. The Circulatory System then delivers carbon dioxide from the body to the lungs, where the respiratory system removes it from the body.
After a surgery what is usually encouraged by a doctor to the patient? A patient must be encourged to breathe deeply to keep all their sacs open and inflated and to cough.
As adults age, what can happen to effect the Respiratoty System? The elasticity of the lung tissue can decrease and the airways can become obstructed due to repeated infections or irritants such as smoking or air pollution, Common Obstructive Pulmonary Disease(COPD).
What happens to the Respiratory System on geriatric adult? The Respiratory System ages as well, they have less muscular strength, less lung capacity, and weaker cough.
What is Tuberculosis(TB)? It is the infection caused by a microorganism that is easily transmitted from one person to another through the air.
What is the disease/ disorder of the obstruction of airflow in the lungs? Emphysema
What are some therapies related to Respiratory disease? Patients with Respiratory disease often require treatments that involove the use of oxygen.
