Ocean floor

QuestionAnswer
continental shelf extension of the continental crust under the ocean
continental slope a steep droop-off at the edge of the continental shelf
mid-ocean ridges areas of higher elevation that extend the length of the spreading plate boundary, are formed on both sides of the crust.
rift zone The notch, or valley, between the edges of the plates at a spreading plate boundary
ocean trench A deep valley that forms when an ocean plate moves below another plate.
ocean basin The areas located between the edge of the oceanic crust and the mid-ocean ridge
