Ocean Floor

science vocabulary

QuestionAnswer
continental shelf It is the extension of the continental crust under the ocean.
continental slope It is a steep drop--off at the edge of the continental shelf.
Mid-ocean ridges Which are areas of higher elevation that extend the length of the spreading plate boundary are formed on both sides of the crust.
Rift zone It is the notch or valley between the edges of the plates at a spreading plate boundary.
ocean trench It is a deep valley that forms when an ocean plate moves below another plate.
ocean basin It is the areas located between the edge of the oceanic crust and a mid- ocean ridge
