Silicate A chemical compound that is composed of oxygen and silicone.
Deficient Referring to a lack of something;
Volcanic Rocks Rocks formed by volcanic eruptions, similar to rocks brought back from the moon.
Basalt A rock formed by volcanic eruptions.
Mares Plains of basalt lava.
Impact Craters Bowl like remains of celestial objects such as asteroids that collided with the Moon.
Moon Phases Different phases of the Moon that occur at Different points in its revolution around Earth.
Lunar Month The cycle of the Moon Phases, which is 29 days and 12 hours.
Perigee The point in the orbit of the Moon or an artificial satellite when it is closest to the Earth.
Apogee The point in its orbit when the Moon is farthest from the Earth.
Eclipse When the Moon or the Earth is shadowed from the Sun or by the other.
Umbra The shadow of one celestial object that completely passes over another object is called this.
Penumbra A partial shadow that occurs during an eclipse is called this.
Lunar Eclipse When the Moon is shadowed from the Sun by the Earth. This can only occur during a full moon.
Solar Eclipse When the Moon passes in front of the Sun.
Spring Tides When the Sun and Moon are on the same side or opposite of the Earth, the lowest and highest tides occur during this time of year.
Neap Tide When the Sun and Moon are at right angles to one another relative to Earth, and they cancel each other out so there are the lowest tidal range of the year.
