Minerals can be identified by these properties: streak, luster, hardness, color
A scratch on a special plate or tile is called streak
This luster describes how sparkly a rock is, or how it reflects light. luster
When a rock is very hard it is not easily scratched
Texture is how something feels when you touch it.
Scientists who study rocks are called geologists
The three different types of rocks are called igneous, sedimentary, metamorphic
Igneous rocks are formed by when magna burts from a volcanoe, cools, and hardens
Crystals shapes can be seen in igneous rocks
Igneous rocks are formed near volcanoes
Granite and basalt are examples of igneous rock
Sedimentary rocksare formed when layers of sediment are pressed together.
The remains of a plant or animal that lived long ago. Fossil
Metamorphic rocks are formed when heat and pressure change an existing rock.
Marble is an exaple of a sedimentary rock
The chaning or rocks from kind to another over millions of years rock cycle
Melted rock is called magma
This cools to form igneous rocks lava
These forces form metamorphic rocks heat and pressure
A solid substance that occurs naturally in rocks or on the ground mineral
Special properties of rocks include fluorescence, magnetism, radioactivity
