Hardwater? Does not lather easily. Tastes nicer than soft water. God source of calcium. Better for brewing and tanning than softwater
Softwater? Lathers easily with soap
Calcium ions + soap = scum
Ion exchange? One of the cheapest ways to remove hardness from water
