QuestionAnswer
A positively charged particle in the nucleus of an atom. Proton
A particle within the nucleus of an atom that has no electric charge. Neutron
A negatively charged particle that orbits the nucleus of the atom. Electron
The bright area that appears to be the visible “surface” of the Sun. Photoshpere
The Sun's reddish atmosphere, lying just above the visible “surface.” Chromosphrer
The less dense outer atmosphere of the Sun, which at great distances turns into the solar wind. Corona
An area on the surface of the sun that appears darker than the surrounding area. These areas have a slightly lower temperature than the surrounding area. Sunspot
A loop or sheet of glowing gas ejected from the solar surface. Prominence
An explosive event occurring in or near an active region on the Sun. Solar Flare
A process that creates tremendous energy in the core of stars by combining hydrogen atoms and producing helium atoms. Nuclear Fusion
