Chapter 8

QuestionAnswer
Characteristics of Skeletal muscle Attached to bones, straited, voluntary, and limited capacity
Characteristics of Cardiac muscle found only in the heart, straited, involuntart, and can regenerate under certain conditions
Characteristics of Smooth muscle In the walls of hollow internal structures, helps digestion, nonstraited, involuntary, and has large capacity to regenerate
Function of fascia the term is applied to a sheet or broad band of fibrous connective tissue or around other muscles/organs
Composition and function of tendon a cord of dense regular connective tissue composed of parallel bundels of collegen fibers
Function of sacrolemma and t-tubule each muscle fiber is surrounded by sarcolemma (Flesh sheets) and t-tubules (tunnel like extentions of sarcolemma)
Function of myofibril Cylindrical structures that extends along the entire length of muscle fibers
Function of actin, tropomysin, and troponin Actin (protein) join together to form actin filiment thats twisted into a helix, contains myosin-binding site. the other 2 cover the myosin building sites
The parts of neuromuscular junction synaptic cleft, sarcolemma, myfibril, axon terminal, synaptic end bulb, nerve impulse, synaptic cesicle containing acetycholine, motor end plate
5 events that happen at an NMJ Release of ACh, Activation of ACh receptors, Generates muscle action potential, Break down of ACh
Events that cause contraction and relaxation in skeletal muscle fiber Contaction: ATP splits, Forms crossbrideges, power stroke binding ATP and detaching. Relaxation: neurotransmitter ACh is rapidly broken down by enzyme acetcholinesterase
Cause of Ducheyenne and Becker Muscle dystrophy mutations in the DMD gene
Definition of cramp and causes rapid uncontrolled contraction (spasm)caused by prolonged exercise, dehydration, metabolic disorder, or myotonin
Causes and symptoms of Fibromyalgia Causes are not really known but believed to be physical or emotional trauma, sleep disturbances,or infection. symptoms are chronic neck and back pain, fatigue, depression, lyme disease, or sleep disorders
Source of pain in shin splints and their cause flat feet, overuse, or small hairline fractures located in the tibia regon
Symptoms of a muscle strain swelling, bruising or redness, pain at rest, weakness of muscle or tendons, or inability to use
Sources of pain in tendon inflamation and the cause pain, swollen, redness. caused by overuse or trauma
Symptoms of myasthenia gravis difficulty breathing, difficulty swolloing or chewing, difficulty talking, drooping head, fatigue
5 functions of muscular tissue 1. Produces body movements 2. Stabilizing body position 3. regulating organ volume 4. Moving substances within the body 5. producing heat
