| galaxy | A huge system of stars, dust, and gas held together by gravity. |
| nebula | A cloud of gas and dust in which new stars form. |
| supernova | A gigantic explosion that occurs near the end of a stars existence. |
| black hole | a point in space that has such a strong force of gravity that nothing within a certain distance of it can escape getting pulled into it. |
| light-year | The distance light travels in the year. |
| radio telescope | A type of telescope with a bowl-shaped dish rather than a mirror or a lens. |
| astrolabe | A tool used to measure the angle between the horizon and a fixed point in space. |
| Galileo Galilei | The Italian scientist that was the first to use a telescope in astronomy. |
