What are some traits of Mammals ? Hair over most of the body, Mammary glands(nurse young),Sweat glands, endothermic, toothed jaws, ears (external flaps), Diaphragm, Enucleated Erythocytes(red blood cells have no nucleus)
What animal were as big as elephants and thought to be herbivores, also died out about 1.00 years before humans came into existence? Giant Ground Sloth
What are the three major groups of mammals ? Monotremes, Marsupials, Eutherian or placental.
Describe Monotremes. Egg laying mammals, e.g. platypus
Describe Marsupials. Have a pouch, e.g. Kangaroo
Describe Eutherians. Young remain in uterus until well developed.
What is a placenta? It is comprised of both uterine wall material and embryotic tissue material, it is the method of getting nitrogen, oxygen, nutrition and antibiotics to the fetus.
Do the blood of a mother and a fetus mix ? Never
Insectivora Shrews, Moles-High Metabolism
Rodentia Mice, Rats, Squirels, Groundhogs,-gnawing teeth
Carnivora Bears, cats, racoons, wolves, dogs-Large canines
Chiroptera Bats-Flying mammals

Artiocdacytla Deer, pigs, hippos, camels, antelope, cattle, bison-Even toed
Cetacea whales and dolphins-mammals who returned to the sea
Primates Monkeys, apes, humans- large brains, grasping hands, binoc vision,
Lagomorpha Rabbits, hares, pikas- large hind legs for jumping
Proboscidea elephants- large trunk, social, intelligent
sirenia sea cows, manatees- slow moving grazers of the sea(real mermaids)
endentata sloths-lack incisors and canines( VERY slow moving)
