Chemical bonds Links between two or more atoms that hold the atoms together.
Covalent compounds Atoms combine by sharing electrons to form molecules.
Ionic compounds Atoms combine by transferring electrons to form molecules.
Ionic lattice A repeating pattern of positive and negative ions.
Polyatomic ion Covalent compounds that gain or lose electrons.
Chemical name Indicates the elements present in a compound.
Chemical formula Shows the symbols and relative numbers of ions in a compound.
Multivalent metals Can form two or more different positive ions.
Reactants Substances going into a reaction.
Products New substance formed after a reaction.
Exothermic reaction Reaction that releases energy.
Endothermic reaction Reaction that absorbs energy.
