Cell Transport.
Cell transport and structure
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Diffusion | Process by which particles tend to move an area where they are more concentrated to an area where they are less concentrated |
| Facilitated Diffusion | Process of diffusion in which molecules pass across the membrane through cell membrane channels |
| Aquaporin | water channel protein in a cell |
| Osmosis | Diffusion of water through a selectively permeable membrane |
| Isotonic solution | When the concentration of two solutions is the same |
| Hypotonic solution | when comparing two solutions, the solution with the lesser concentration of solutes |
| Osmotic Pressure | Pressure that must be applied to prevent osmotic movement across a selectively permeable membrane |
| Passive transport | transport of a substance across a cell membrane by diffusion |
| Active transport | The movement of ions or molecules across a cell membrane into a region of higher concentration, assisted by enzymes and requiring energy. |
| Endocytosis | The taking in of matter by a living cell by invagination of its membrane to form a vacuole. |
| Exocytosis | A process by which the contents of a cell vacuole are released to the exterior through fusion of the vacuole membrane with the cell membrane |
