what is sea-floor spreading? sea-floor spreading is a process that slowly adds new rock to the ocean floor.
plate boundaries where two plates meet
transform boundary two plates slip past each other in opposite directions (faults, earthquakes)
divergent boundary two plates move apart (midocean ridges, rift valleys)
convergent boundary two plates come together and collide (ocean trenches, mountains)
pangea the super continent in Wegener's theory of continential drift
what causes plates to move? circulating heat currents in the earth's mantle that cause the plates to move.
the lithosphere the earth's lithosphere is part of the mantle and the crust, made of solid rock, and is broken into separate sections.
Wegener's landform evidence wegener used mountian ranges and coal beds to prove his theory.
Wegener's fossil evidence Wegener used the plant fossils and the mesosuarus fossils to prove his theory.
Wegener's climate evidence Wegener used glacier stratches and found fossils of tropical platnts in antarctica to prove his theory.
