What is a pure substance? Matterb that always has exactly the same composition. EX. table salt
What is an element? A substance that cannot be broken down into smaller substances. EX. Helium
What is an atom? The smallest particle of an element.
What is a compound? A substance that is made from two or more simpler substances and can be broken down into more simpler substances. EX. Sillicon Dioxide
What is a solution? When substances disslove and form a homogenous mixture, the mixture that forms is a solution.
What is suspension? A heterogeneous mixture that separates into layers over time.
What is colloid? Contains some particles that are intermediate in size between the small partials and large particles in a suspension.
What is a heterogeneous mixture? The parts of the mixture are noticably different from one anthoer.
What is a homogeneous? The parts of a mixture are evenly distributed throughout the substance.
