QuestionAnswer
What is a pure substance? It is matter that always has exactly the same composition; an element or compound.
What is an element? It is a substance that cannot be broken down into simpler substances.
What is an atom? It is the smallest particle of an element.
What is a compound? It is a substance that is made from two or more simpler substances and can be broken down into those simpler substances.
What is a heterogeneous mixture? It is a type of mixture in which the parts of the mixture are noticeably different from one another.
What is a homogeneous mixture? It is a type of mixture in which the substances are so evenly distributed that it is difficult to distinguish one substance from another.
What is a solution? It is a mixture that forms when substances dissolve and form a homogeneous mixture.
What is suspension? It is a heterogeneous mixture that separates into layers over time.
What is a colloid? It is a mixture that contains some particles that are intermediate in size between the small particles in a solution and the larger particles in a suspension.
