Spermatozoa Male gamete that consists of cell membrane a cytoplasm and a haploid nucleus in the shape of a head (and acrosome), middle part and a tail
Ova/Egg Female gamete, shape of an oval consists of a cell membrane, cytoplasm, jelly coating and a haploid nucleus
Acrosome Situated at the tip of the spermatozoa, it contains enzymes to digests its way through the jelly coating of the ova.
Ante-natal care Is the care a child receives after birth it involves breast feeding, the diet of the mother and whether the mother consumes drugs, alcohol or not.

Umbilical cord Is a cord that connects the placenta to the fetus, allowing diffuse substances to pass from fetus to mother or iase versa
Gestation period Is the time between fertilisation of the ovum and birth, which averages off at 9 months.
Amniotic sac Is a membrane that surrounds the developing fetus, it contains amniotic fluid that prevents mechanical damage to be inflicted on the fetus.
Fertilisation The fusion of both male and female gametes after intercourse, which creates a zygote a fertilized egg cell
Cervix The ring of muscles which is situated at the opening of the uterus, which dilates during birth.
Implantation Is when the embryo embeds itself into the lining of the uterus
Fusion In terms of reproduction, it is when the males gamete combines with the cell membrane of the ova, allowing both haploid nuclei to merge creating a diploid nucleus
Peristalsis contractions Wave of contractions that moves the egg through the oviduct to the the uterus, this is aided along with cilia beating a current.
Labour Is the time during birth when the uterus contracts.
Oxytoxin Aa hormone that stimulates the uterus to contract during birth, it is release due to increased pressure in the uterus
Passive Immunity Is when the baby gains its mother's antibodies, which its unable to produce, through the blood and the breast milk of the mother
