Heredity

QuestionAnswer
allele one of two or more alternative forms of a gene that arise by mutation and are found at the same place on a chromosome.
gene a unit of heredity that is transferred from a parent to offspring and is held to determine some characteristic of the offspring:
evolution 1 the process by which different kinds of living organisms are thought to have developed and diversified from earlier forms during the history of the earth.
genotype Biology the genetic constitution of an individual organism. Often contrasted with phenotype.
natural selection the process whereby organisms better adapted to their environment tend to survive and produce more offspring.
punnet square The Punnett square is a diagram that is used to predict an outcome of a particular cross or breeding experiment.
trait a distinguishing quality or characteristic, typically one belonging to a person:
recessive undergoing an economic recession:
phenotype the set of observable characteristics of an individual resulting from the interaction of its genotype with the environment.
mutation the action or process of mutating:
