| intrusive rock | Igneous rock that formed when magma hardened beneath Earth’s surface. |
| basalt | A dark, dense, igneous rock with a fine texture, found in oceanic crust (most common extrusive rock). |
| granite | A usually light-colored rock that is found in continental crust (most common intrusive rock). |
| porphyritic texture | Intrusive rocks that have large crystals scattered on a background of much smaller crystals. |
