Elements & Molecules
Molecules, atoms, and chemical equations
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Law of Conservation of Mass | A law that states that mass can neither created nor destroyed |
| Physical Change | A change that affects the form of a chemical substance but doesn't change the chemical composition for that substance |
| Chemical Change | A change that occurs when a certain substance is formed into an another substance by a chemical reaction |
| Element | The chemically simplest substance that cannot be broken down any further |
| Chemical Formula | A way of expressing information about the atoms that constitute a particular chemical compound |
| Element (Diatomic) Molecule | Molecules composed only of two atoms, of either the same or different chemical elements |
| Compound Molecule | Group of two or more elements that are bonded together |
| Chemical Equation | A symbolic representation of a chemical reaction where the reactant entities are given on the left hand side and the product entities on the right hand side |
| Chemical Reaction | A process that leads to the transformation of one set of chemical substances to another |
| Reactants | Substances such as compounds and elements that are combined to create a product |
| Products | The result of substances changing into different substances |
| Coefficient | A numerical measure of a physical or chemical property that is constant for a system under specified conditions |
| Subscript | Placed to the lower right of the element's symbol, this shows the number of atoms of an element in a molecule |
