Why did Robert Hooke call them cells? They reminded him of the small rooms monks lived in at a monastery
What is the contribution of Dujardin? Cells were alive
What is the contribution of Schleiden? All plants are composed of cells
What is the contribution of Schwann? Animals are multicellular
What is stated by the Cell Theory? All organisms are composed or more cells. The cell is the basic unit of structure and organization of organisms. All cells come from preexisting cells.
What determines the size of an organism? The number of cells
Define Organelle Small, specialized structures
What are Eukaryotic Cells? Cell or cells in which the genetic material is DNA in the form of chromosomes contained within a distinct nucleus.
What are Prokaryotic Cells? A cell including the bacteria and cyanobacteria, that has neither a distinct nucleus with a membrane nor other specialized organelles.
What is Specialization? Division of layer
What is the advantage of specialization? The organism gets good at the one job
What is the disadvantage of specialization? Interdependence
