Events Over Time - Landforms

| Weathering | The breaking down of rocks by water, wind, ice or other agents. |
| Erosion | The movement of rock particles. |
| Deposition | The process by which eroded earth materials settle out (are dropped) in another place. |
| Canyon | A V-shaped valley eroded by a river or steam. |
| Delta | Sediment deposits that form a fan-shape at the mouth of a river or stream. |
| Earth Material | A substance that makes up or comes from the Earth, such as rocks, air and water. |
| Valley | A low area between hills and mountains where a river often flows. |
| Plateau | An elevated area of level land. |
| Flood | A very heavy flow or overflow of water. |
| Floodplain | Land that is covered with water during a flood. |
| Glacier | A slow moving slab of ice found on land that is often miles long and hundreds of feet thick. |
| Landform | A shape of the land. |
| Landslide | A loose mass of rock and soil that slides or falls rapidly down a hillside or mountain because of gravity. |
| Meander | A curve or loop in a river. |
| Model | A representation or explanation of how a system works or is constructed. |
| Mountain | An elevated area of land at least 2,000 feet above the surrounding landscape. |
| Particle | A small bit of material. |
| Peak | The highest point or top of a mountain. |
| Plain | Broad, flat areas of land not far above sea level. |
| Ridge | High land between two valleys. |
| River | A large, natural stream of water that flows into another body of water. |
| Rock | A hard, solid earth material. |
| Sediment | Tiny bits of rock, shell, dead plants, or other materials that settle to the bottom of a liquid. |
| Soil | The mixture of humus and earth materials. |
| Stream | A flow of water in a channel. |
| Structure | Something built by people. |
| Symbol | An object or picture used to represent something. |
| Earthquake | A sudden movement of the Earth's crust. |
| Hurricane | A severe storm with heavy amounts of rain and strong winds. |
| Beach | The part of the shore of an area that meets a body of water. |
| Volcano | An opening in the earth's crust from which molten lava, ash, and gases exit. |
| Tornado | A violent, destructive windstorm occurring on land in the shape of a funnel. |
| Cave | An opening in the earth that is usually located on a hill or mountain. |
| Constructive | Shaping or building land up. |
| Destructive | Shaping or tearing land down. |
