Define Cell. The basic unit of all living things.
Define Atom. The smallest amount of any element.
Define Element. The basic materials that create earth, and it can not be broken down.
How many elements are essential for living things? 25
What are the 4 most common elements in living things? Carbon, Oxygen, Hydrogen, Nitrogen.
Which of the elements are in all living things? Carbon.
What is measured by pH? Acidic levels.
The ranges of the pH levels? Below 0 and over 14.
If the pH is less than 7 the substance is? Acidic.
If the pH is greater than 7 the substance is? Base.
If the pH is exactly 7 the substance is? Natural.
What is the study of cells? Cytology.
What invention allowed the discovery of cells? Microscopes.
Who is credited with discovering and naming cells? Robert Hooke.
What is the contribution of Dujardin? That all cells are alive.
What is the contribution of Schleiden? That all plants have cells.
What is the contribution of Schwann? That all animals have cells.
What is the contribution of Rudolph Virchow? All cells rise from cells.
What determines the size of an organism? Matters how many cells the organism has.
Define Organelle Any of a number of organized or specialized structures within a living cell.
What are Eukaryotic Cells? is an organism whose cells contain complex structures enclosed within membranes.
What are Prokaryotic Cells? are a group of organisms that lack a cell nucleus, or any other membrane-bound organelles.
What is Specialization? Division of labor.
What is the advantage of specialization? allows a person to become skilled and efficient at a specific task.
What is the disadvantage of specialization? (Interdependence) to be good at one thing but not the other related to that thing you are good at.
What are the 5 levels of specialization? Cell, Tissue, Organ, Organ System, Organism.
