Vocabulary WordDefinition
Water Cycle The constant recycling of water on Earth.
Precipitation Water that falls out of the air in the form of rain, sleet, snow, or hail.
Tide The daily change in the local water level of the ocean.
Evaporation The process by which a liquid changes to a gas.
Wave The up-and-down movement of water particles.
Deep Ocean Current A river of water that flows in the ocean that forms because of density differences in ocean water.
Condensation The process by which gas changes to a liquid.
Storm Surge A very large wave.
Surface Current A river of water that flows in the ocean that forms because of a steady wind blowing over the ocean surface.
Trench Canyon in the ocean floor.
Abyssal Plain A large flat area on the ocean floor.
Continental Shelf A shallow area of the ocean floor.
Shore Zone The place where land meets the ocean.
Mid-Ocean Ridge Mountain ranges on the ocean floor.
Trench Landform most like a valley on Earth's surface
Shore zone Part of the ocean you might swim in
