---|---|
law of conservation of mass | states that the mass of an isolated system (closed to all matter and energy) will remain constant over time. |
Physical change | any process involving a substance's change from one state (gas, liquid, solid) to another without alteration of the chemical composition; |
chemical change | any change from one state (gas, liquid, solid) which is accompanied by alteration of the chemical composition; |
element | one of a class of substances that cannot be separated into simpler substances by chemical means. |
chemical formula | a representation of a substance using symbols for its constituent elements |
element (diatomic) molecule | A diatomic molecule is a molecule that is made up of only two atoms. Some common diatomic molecules are Hydrogen, Oxygen, and Nitrogen. |
chemical equation | is the symbolic representation of a chemical reaction where the reactant entities are given on the left hand side and the product entities on the right hand side. |
chemical reaction | is a process that leads to the transformation of one set of chemical substances to another. |
reactants (in a chemical equation) | occurs when chemicals or substances change into one or more other substances. |
Products(in a chemical equation) | the newly formed chemicals or substances are called products |
coefficient (in a chemical equation) | The coefficients represent the number of moles of reactants and products. |
subscript (in a chemical equation) | tell you how many atoms of each element are in the equation. |
element molecule | it would be like C or H or Cl it will always have a 2 and only 1 element!!! |
