What is a Physical Property? | A characteristic of an object that can be observed without changing the substance |
What is melting point? | The temperature at which something melts |
What is boiling point? | The temperature at which something boils |
What is density? | Describes the relationship between the amount of matter in something vs. the volume |
What is color? | Can be used to identify a substance |
What is chemical property? | A property of matter that cannot be observed without changing or trying to change the substance |
What is the ability to burn? | A way to show that the object or substance contains chemicals |
What is the ability to rust? | A way to show that the object or substance contains chemicals |
What is physical change? | Doesn't change the composition of a substance just the physical properties |
What is change in a state of matter? | When a substance changes from one state of matter to another; composition stays the same |
What is change in size or shape? | When a substance changes in size or shape; composition stays the same |
What is chemical property? | The result of a new substance with new chemical and physical properties |
What is color change? | When a substance changes color the chemical composition of the substance may have changed; it's possible to have a color change without a chemical change |
What is temperature change? | when a substance combines with another substance there may be an increase or decrease in temperature; it's possible to have a temperature change without a chemical change |
What is the formation of a precipitate? | when two solutions are combined they may form a solid substance; shows that a chemical change happened |
What is a formation of a gas? | When a solid or liquid substances are combined gas bubbles may form; this shows that a chemical change has happened |
What is sublimation? | When a substance changes directly from a gas to a solid or a solid to a gas |
